12/28/07-Roger Clemens: His lawyers are now launching an investigation into the investigation of steroid use in baseball. The lawyers are specifically targeting the evidence against Clemens and how it was obtained. Was McNamee lying? I highly doubt it. I mean come on, Roger. Your innings pitched went into the 200′s when McNamee was hired in Toront, they dipped down under 200 when you went to the Yankees, and then went back up when the Yankees hired McNamee. Stats don’t lie Roger, people do. Even if you believe that you didn’t take steroids, that’s fine, but launching your own investigation via your lawyers, get over it. 1/4/08-Update: Well, Roger, thanks for making an effort and admitting one of your mistakes. Clemens finally admitted on Thursday to taking injections of B-12 and Lidocaine. Other than those named, he still stands by his claim that he never used any banned substances as a Major Leaguer. 1/6/08-Update: So today Roger decides that he is willing to take a lie detector test. That’s risky isn’t it Roger? Good luck if you do, the results should be quite interesting. It was also released earlier this weekend that Clemens and NcNamee have supposedly chatted about what is taking place. Boy would I love to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. Stay tuned as this soap opera continues on January 16th, when Congress hopes that the two sources, Clemens, and Andy Pettitte testify.
- 12/29/07-Kyle Korver: New Sixers GM Ed Stefanski made his first move of his tenure in Philadelphia, trading one of Billy King’s boys, Kyle Korver to Utah for disgruntled guard Gordan Giricek and a conditional first-round pick that can be used in the 2009 draft but doesn’t have to be used until 2014. Korver holds the Sixers franchise record for 3-pointers in a season with 226 in 2004-05. The Sixers will take on the Utah Jazz in Utah on Wednesday.
- 12/29/07-Jim Leyritz: A former major leaguer, famous for his playoff clutch hitting with the Yankees (’96) and Padres (’98), Leyritz faces charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI property damage in a fatal accident in Florida. He refused a breathalyzer test and was held on $11,000 bail. Authorities are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident. Officers from the scene said Leyritz had a flushed face, watery eyes, and an odor of alcohol. 1/2/08-Update: Just released today, Leyritz was driving with a suspended license at the time of the accident. He can now face additional charges, even though Leyritz’s lawyer said Leyritz claims he never knew his license was suspended.
- 12/29/07-Rick Neuheisel: Former UCLA quarterback is returning to alma mater to become the program’s 16th head coach. He will conclude his duties as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Neuheisel has a career college coaching record of 66-30 with Colorado and Washington. He was fired from UW in 2003 for taking part in an NCAA basketball pool. He takes over for the recently fired Karl Dorrell, a teammate of his during their playing days at UCLA.
- 1/2/08-Lloyd Carr: The Michigan head coach, in his final game with the Wolverines, went out a champion. Carr and his Wolverines knocked off Urban Meyer and the defending National Champion Florida Gators 41-35 in the Capitol One Bowl yesterday. Carr finishes with a 122-40 record with Michigan, a position he’s held since 1995. His replacement, WVU’s former head coach Rich Rodriguez. Congratulations Lloyd, it is a well deserved win following a rough start to the season, a 34-32 loss to eventual three time National Champion Appalachian State of formerly Division I-AA, now known as the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision).
- 1/13/08-Heat vs. Hawks: The NBA is making these two teams replay the final 51.9 seconds of an overtime game played in December because the Hawks scorer incorrectly listed Shaq with too many fouls, subsequently fouling him out for the remainder of the overtime session. The game will be finished on March 8th when the two teams meet again and the score will begin with the Hawks leading 114-111. Should be interesting. This is the first time since 1982 that the league is calling for a do-over. For the scorer’s negligence, the team was fined $50,000 by the league.
- 1/16/08-Congressional Hearings on Steroids: What a joke. Not even were the questions and comments longwinded and full of b.s. from the panel, but the answers from those present (Selig, Fehr, and Mitchell), were not exactly what many people wanted to hear or expected to hear. I felt that the entire proceedings were just a waist of time. Its time now for the players themselves to step up, be men about it, and come forward and discuss what they have either witnessed or done themselves. That is the only way the league might regain its credibility with its fans.
- 1/29/08-Mets land Santana?:This could be the piece of the puzzle that Omar Minaya and co. have been looking for the past couple of seasons that could get the Mets to the World Series. In the proposed deal the Twins would receive four prospects in return, including Carlos Gomez. The Mets and Santana have until 5pm Friday to work out a contract extension if they want Santana, who has a full no-trade clause, to accept the move to New York. 2/2/08-Mets land Santana: Well, its official, the Mets landed Johan Santana yesterday after agreeing to the largest contract for a pitcher in the history of the game. Santana is the only player heading to the Mets while the team is sending four prospects to the Twins.
- 2/2/08-Spygate: US Senator Arlen Specter wants to know why commissioner Roger Goodell destroyed video evidence of the Patriots spying on the Jets earlier in the season. One man who might have the answers is former Patriot video assistant, Matt Walsh, who was with the team from 1998-2003. He refuses to offer any information regarding what he knows about the Patriots video taping techniques and habits for fear of legal action against him by either the league or the team.
- 2/4/08-Giants win it all: 17-14. Its not the 21-17 score that Plaxico Burress predicted but a win’s a win and he caught the go ahead score with less than 40 seconds on the game clock. Congratulations to the Giants. Now it’s time to start all over again.
- 3/19/08-Allen Iverson Returns: The Answer makes his first return to Philadelphia tonight when the Denver Nuggets take on the streaking 76ers. This is Iverson’s first visit to his old stomping grounds since being traded to Denver 15 months ago.
